Welcome! We're so happy you're here! We're Kalyn and Caela, two besties that can usually be found together in Walt Disney World or Target. We're here to bring you reviews, tips and tricks, funny anecdotes, and our favorite shopping finds. Our style is all about being cute, practical, and comfortable. We hope our blog brings you magic and joy!
If you were to ask Caela or I two years ago if we’d ever thought we’d run a half marathon, or even a full marathon, we’d laugh and tell you absolutely not. I (Kalyn) had actually “ran” a half marathon before but I really struggled. I didn’t train properly, drink enough water, or fuel my body like I should have. So I told myself it would never happen again.
But one day out of the blue in August 2018, Caela called me up and told me we were absolutely participating in a RunDisney race. We had both been doing so good working out at Orange Theory and pushing ourselves that we wanted to take it to the next level. Caela had such confidence in her voice that this was something we had to do.
In February 2019 we ran our first runDisney race & Fairytale Challenge! *Signing up to participate in a challenge race means running multiple races during that event weekend. i.e. a 10K and a half-marathon.
We were so nervous but also very excited. The expo was impressive, everyone was so nice, and the overall atmosphere was so encouraging! Shout out to my husband for being our personal photographer that weekend haha.
Race day mornings are also so special. We truly didn’t realize what people meant when they said that but now we totally understand. There’s so much excitement in the air. People are cheering each other on at the start line. And then before you know it, fireworks go off and everyone is on their way.
We don’t usually stop for any character meet and greets, we just know that once we stop we are less enthused to keep going. 🤣 and if you didn’t know, they had a variety of characters along the race route where you can stop and get a photo pass photo! I’m pretty sure every race we’ve run has been insanely hot. So thankfully there were man water and Powerade stations are along the way! Depending on the race (and temperature) they have sport beans for energy, cold sponges/towels to cool off, and bananas during (marathon weekend) and after the race with a snack box.
We ran that half marathon in less than 2 hours and 30 minutes which was our goal. We were so proud of each other for doing our best. Even if it was so hot and humid and we were drenched in sweat crossing the finish line 🤣
I don’t know what exact moment it was but from then on we were hooked on RunDisney. We left that weekend wanting more and couldn’t wait to sign up for another race weekend. So that’s exactly what we did. We signed up for Wine and Dine Weekend that November 2019! AND (still to this day a shock to me), we signed up for the Marathon, during Marathon Weekend that upcoming January 2020!
Sounds dramatic but Marathon Weekend still brings me to tears sometimes. I say it all the time, never in our life did we think we’d run 26.2 miles. But to do it, and do it with your best friend you met on the Disney College Program 7 years ago, is nothing short of magical.
No matter what goals you set for yourself, little or small, it’s an accomplishment knowing you tried your best and put your whole heart into it. We hope you take this story as inspiration to get out of your comfort zone and try something new! You’ll never know where it’ll take you.
