Welcome! We're so happy you're here! We're Kalyn and Caela, two besties that can usually be found together in Walt Disney World or Target. We're here to bring you reviews, tips and tricks, funny anecdotes, and our favorite shopping finds. Our style is all about being cute, practical, and comfortable. We hope our blog brings you magic and joy!
We have to start this blog post by saying this was the best trip we’ve ever taken. We booked this cruise so last minute, as it was only one week before it was set it sail. We’re now firm believers that last minute trips can be the best kind of trips. Caela had called Disney Cruise Line to check on military rates for on a 3-night cruise on the Dream, and it was such a great deal we couldn’t pass it up. Before ya know it, we were in Port Canaveral ready to sail. Our ports included Disney’s private island Castaway Cay & Nassau, Bahamas.
This was my (Kalyn) first time on DCL and it was Caela’s second, so I was incredibly excited. I won’t get into the details of parking, embarkation, baggage handling, and getting our state room. As I’m sure things will change as new protocols are put in place when DCL starts to sail again. But I will say it was easy, convenient, and organized as soon as we arrived. We drove together to the port and parked our personal car. At the time, we were both living in Georgia and North Carolina so the drive wasn’t too long!
Our first night at dinner we were seated with 6 other people. 2 couples and another set of friends. It was so awkward at first. Everyone was silent and didn’t say anything. One of the couples were from Scotland and ended up telling us they didn’t think they would be sitting with anyone. They were shocked to learn that that’s what happens on cruise ships unless you request otherwise (pre covid). Soon after, Caela decided to buy a round of tequila shots for the whole table and the rest of the trip was history. We danced all night long and requested many songs to the DJ on staff.
Another night we participated in the silent disco and I swear I have never laughed so hard in my entire life. We currently stay in contact with everyone through Facebook and can’t wait to all meet up again someday!
Castaway Cay is so beautiful, I dream of the white sand beach and clear waters. We didn’t run the 5k that morning because we were too lazy to get up so early haha but we did enjoy laying on the beach and doing nothing most of the day.
We didn’t get off the ship at Nassau, we both had been there already and wanted to use the day to explore the ship and eat brunch at Palo. I truly hope Palo will still be a brunch option when DCL starts to sail again, the desserts were incredible and so was the food. You can make a reservation for Palo at the time of booking your cruise or make the reservation the moment you get aboard the ship. That day we also bought a day pass for The Rainforest room at The Senses Spa onboard. It was a little less than $20 and we had access to a sauna, steam room, jacuzzis overlooking the ocean, and tropical showers that had different water pressure settings. It was so relaxing!
Every night we watched a show in The Walt Disney Theatre with a bucket of popcorn, or three.
Each sailing on the Disney Dream, there used to (and still hope to be) a pirate themed night, with a dance party on the main deck and fireworks at sea!!!! Everyone gets so excited for it. Caela and I were very prepared with our outfits and had the best time dressing up.
We visited Cove Cafe, the coffee bar near the adult pool deck, every single morning. Y’all know we love our coffee. So save up your dollars for that cause it’s 100% worth it. And they also had a selection of complimentary pastries. A DREAM, pun intended.
There is so much more to tell and I could go on and on. We hope to sail again someday soon, we miss it so much. Until then, absence will make the heart grow fonder.
